E-only scholarly journals: overcoming the barriers

Whilst at BU we have already expanded our e-provision of journals to the maximum possible given the titles to which we are subscribing, in the UK, we are still some way from a wholly electronic journal environment. A 2008 a survey of publishers found that 10% of all scholarly journals were still not available online, more in the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Read about how librarians, suppliers and publishers are working together to achieve 100% e-access to journals.

BURO - how many times have your items been downloaded?

We have implemented some exciting new software in BURO called IRStats which allows researchers to see how many visitors have accessed each of their full text Open Access research outputs.

  • Select More Statistics for this Item to see how users are finding your research outputs and using which search terms.
The newly added BU e-theses are already proving popular as is the work of BU academics who have added full text open access copies of their research outputs. Contact your Subject Librarian for help and advice on how to add legal open access copies of your work and attract more citations.

REF assessment postponed until 2014

David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science, has announced the new timetable for the Research Excellence Framework (REF). The assessment phase of the REF will now take place during 2014 to inform funding from 2015-16

This will allow HEFCE and other funding partners more time to gain feedback from universities and develop a robust method for assessing the impact of research.
